FAQ Information. Motor's Resistance   Date: Wednesday 31 May, 2006 FAQ Summary: FAQ Content: (a) It is recommended to use a ohm meter that is capable of reading less than .1 ohms as the difference between one motor and another is sometimes measured in 100ths of an ohm. (b) measure the resistance between 2 of the 3 motor wires and make sure the wire that is not being connected to the meter is not toughing anything (c) The 2 speed motor ( Wye Delta Motor ) may have slightly different values due to the wire diameter used but the measurement technique is about the same... make sure that all the motor wires are separated and not touching anything then measure the pairs individually.... in a 406-408 motor the 406 pair should have about .4 ohms resistance between phase wires and the 408 winding should have about .6 ohms. Notes*** The first picture shows the shorted leads showing .48 ohms and it should be 0 ohms... if your meter does not go to zero when the leads are shorted, you will have to add that amount ( the shorted reading ) to the result to get a more accurate result. The second picture is an example of how to measure the resistance between the motor wires.
